Giving out goats and know-how in Uganda

Veterinary student Jamie Neufeld is spending the summer in Uganda, working as an intern with Veterinarians without Borders/Vétérinaires sans Frontières Canada (VWB/VSF).

Neufeld, who will begin her second year at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in August, shared some of her experiences on the VWB/VSF blog. She described working with 16 different community groups that are part of the VWB's goat pass-on project. Their work focuses on helping impoverished women in rural Uganda, many of whom support extended families by raising goats and farming.

The interns also provide vaccinations and disease testing for the goats, as well as teaching animal husbandry skills to the program participants.

Check out Part One and Part Two of Neufeld's experiences alongside her fellow VWB interns.
