WCVM graduate selected as top bovine vet

Dr. Oliver Schunicht, a 1994 graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), was recently selected as the 2018 Boehringer Ingelheim-Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners (WCABP) Veterinarian of the Year.

He accepted his award in January during the WCABP’s annual conference in Calgary, Alta.

Schunicht has spent most of his veterinary career as an associate field veterinarian, researcher and production consultant with Feedlot Health Management Services in Okotoks, Alta. Based on his work and broad understanding of the beef cattle industry, Schunicht has earned the respect of his colleagues and clients. He’s often asked to speak at national and international conferences and share his expertise on bovine health management and production.

Schunicht is a member of the board of directors for the Canadian Association of Bovine Veterinarians/Association Canadienne des Vétérinaires Bovins (CABV/ACVB) and a past president of the WCABP. He has also been a member of several other veterinary-related committees and is always valued for his insight and vision.

In addition to his professional life, Schunicht maintains a 400-head, Angus-based cow-calf operation and a 1,000-head feedlot.
