Veterinarians warn caution around wildlife

Veterinarians advise pet owners to be careful when around wildlife with their pets, as injuries caused by wildlife attacks can be severe and life threatening.

A recent article in The StarPhoenix detailed the story of a dog injured by a beaver attack near North Battleford, Sask.

Dr. Cary Johnson (WCVM ’18), a veterinarian at Battlefords Animal Hospital, reported seeing several injuries to pets after encounters with wild animals.

Dr. Jennifer Loewen, an emergency and critical care specialist at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, suggests keeping a distance from wildlife and ensuring that you’re aware of your surroundings if your pet is running off-leash.
