WCVM student honoured at Indigenous awards event

Veterinary student Hope Skorlatowski was recognized for her academic achievements during the University of Saskatchewan’s Indigenous Student Awards on Feb. 4.

Skorlatowski, who is in her first year of veterinary studies at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), received an award for academic excellence during the virtual ceremony.

The annual awards program honours Indigenous students for their academic achievements, leadership, research, resiliency and community engagement.

Skorlatowski grew up on an acreage outside of Cold Lake, Alta., and completed two years of the animal bioscience program at USask College of Agriculture and Bioresources before she was accepted at the WCVM.

Her passions include animal behaviour and training, and she competes and trains in various dog sports. Skorlatowski also enjoys riding horses — a skill that she developed while working as a wrangler at a local ranch. Click here to read a profile of Skorlatowski that was published in fall 2020.
