WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre accepting emergency cases only
As of April 28, the Western College of Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC) at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) is accepting emergency cases only for its small animal and large animal clinical services until further notice.
By WCVM TodayThe veterinary teaching hospital is limiting its clinical services because of an outbreak of COVID-19 among staff and students who work in the facility. The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) confirmed the outbreak in the hospital on April 27.
The VMC takes the responsibility of providing essential and specialized veterinary care for owners and referring veterinary clinics very seriously. The health and safety of staff, students and clients are also key priorities that must be considered in the hospital’s decisions about clinical services.
The hospital’s clinical team is working hard to ensure that its 24-hour emergency and critical service can continue operating. We are closely monitoring the situation and will adjust operations as necessary. The WCVM will continue to update the public about any further changes to the hospital’s services. Additional updates will also be posted on the Veterinary Medical Centre website.
If a member of the public has an animal in need of emergency care, the VMC directs people to call the Small Animal Clinic (306-966-7126) or the Large Animal Clinic (306-966-7178) before travelling to the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre. For non-emergent cases, owners are advised to contact their local veterinary clinic for assistance.
